oil boiler flue cage

Hi
I've had a couple of birds get stuck in the flu in the last year or so, so need to put a cage/chicken wire on the top.

Are there (inevitable!) Building Regs covering this, or any advice on best option? Picures here:

You could get a piece of wire netting or thin wire weldmesh with 20mm holes and form a screen. Depending how you make it, drop it over the top or use a suitable screws to hold it to the sides under the cap. The biggest problem will be getting access to it, though if you drop it over the top, you could do it with a long pole and a hook.
