Upgrade control to prevent dry cycling as per Building regs Part L1
a 26Kw boiler will consume about 3.5 ltrs oil per hour, if running constantly, so you can do the maths, but with oil at 40p a litre, i'd have thought that a control upgrade was not out of the question.
however you don's say if the boiler is a combi or not, in which case most are designed to keep their primary stores hot at all times
