Hi Folks,
I am lucky in that I have a pretty good source of free wood and am seriously thinking about binning my 25 yr old oil boiler and fitting a Aga/Rayburn type range with back boiler. My current setup has a cistern in the bathroom, which I wish to keep. I appreciate that I will need to replace the flue for a MF twin skin version, but what I am more interested in is whether there is a lot of plumbing mods required. Is my existing pipework likely to be OK to use with MF ? The current system has a grundfoss pump, would the system have to be converted to a gravity only system ?

Many thanks

The system will need to handle heat output of boiler in event of power failure.
I'm sure you will find details of system design on Aga Rayburn web.
Watch out for output figures with solid fuel appliances as meny are based on burning coal etc not wood.

A cooker does not make a good boiler, and a boiler does not make a good cooker.

Aga/Rayburn were not designed for wood.

If you want wood heating either use a wood burning stove, where you can put a pot on the top if you need to, or have a purpose built boiler, or have a masonry stove, but it is better to build the stove first then build the house round it.

Rayburn have an offer on now for 6 months of free fuel for a solid fuel cooker and £500 of oil for a burner type.

Fair enough

Aga/Rayburn were not designed for wood.

Not strictly true, there are a couple of Rayburn models that do.

If you want wood heating either use a wood burning stove, where you can put a pot on the top

Fair comment, and certainly something I would consider

I'm sure you will find details of system design on Aga Rayburn web.

Cheers, but I was wondering if anyone here had first hand experience
