I've been building up layers of tung oil on my windows & front door and noticed last night a few oil bubbles appearance and may have over done it slightly, I was going to rub it down with '00' steel wool with white spirit to take out the bubbles, is this the correct way of doing it?

Better to use a Scotchbrite pad or synthetic steel wool, if you leave any bits of wire on the window it will cause rust spots when it gets wet. Don't really need the whitespirit. A cabinet scraper is an alternative.

Thanks Jasonb,

Do I leave the oil bubbles to harden up for a while before I rub it down? It's still a bit sticky.

I have got a cabinet scraper but I was worried I might make it worse, I'm still learning!

If rubbing it down then let it harden off, if scraping then you can do it straight away.

Thanks, I shall it leave for next year to rub it down. Is it because I put too much on? I use 50/50 ratio of white spirit / tung oil.
