Hello
I have completed all of my workshops for level 2 of the 2330 with OLCI and have been very impressed so far.
I am doing my first practical assessment in July and will then start level 3 soon after.
I hope to obtain this by Xmas 2007.
It is a quick way to obtain the qualification but you will have to work very hard!! (I have!!) as you will be learning in a very short space of time.
In addition they have a service that will help you to find work as an electricians mate - i am using the it and the lady has been very helpful.

Many thx for your reply dh785

Ive just completed my HNC in electronic and electrical engineering so I believe the electrical principles unit will help with circuit theory etc

How often were the 2 day practical sessions scheduled? Were they weekends only or were they also during the week ??

Rgds

The workshops comprise:

1. Basic Electrical ( 3 days) which comprises
a. Wiring a two way lighting circuit using MICC cable - very tricky!!
b. Wiring a lighting circuit (two way) in PVC conduit.
c. Wiring a ring main and lighting circuit in steel conduit.

2. UP 1 Practical session (2 days) involving measuring current and voltage in various circuits powered by batteries and the action of a relay.

3. UP 2 Part 1 Practical session (3 days) involving:
a. Using PVC sheathed and insulated wiring to construct a lighting circuit.
b. Using steel conduit to construct a ring main using PVC insulated wiring.
c. Using PVC conduit instead of steel to construct the circuit in b.

d. Using MICC cable to construct a one way lighting circuit.

e. Construct T shapes and right angles bends from cable tray - hard work!!

4. UP2 part 2 Practical session (3 days) involving:

a. Using FP200 cable with appropriate gland termination.
b. Using SWA cable with appropriate gland termination.
c. Fixing cable to steel tray.
d. Steel Trunking with PVC insulated wiring.

5. Assessment session (2 days) involving a session on measuring voltages and current in a circuit and the construction of a r electrical installation set by OLCI (verified by C & G) - they give you 10 hours to do this.
If you practice all these before the assessment then you will pass - no problem!

After all that you should pass and get your level 2 and then you can start the level 3 which is testing and fault finding.
The workshops can be during the week or at weekends ( my assessment next month is over sat and sun.
BTW You will have to pass the online GOLA's at the start of UP1 and UP2. You have to first do the theory course before you can register for the workshops.
I hope all this is clear.

Hi dh785,
I was going to attend my local college for the C&G 2330 courses over 3 years, how long has it taken for you to get to the stage 2 you are at with OLCI?
I am already doing small scale electrical work as a plumber.
Cheers

Hi
It has taken me since January so 6 months and i am allowing a furthur 6 months to obtain level 3.
Why bother with all those years at college!
