I’m going to be repainting the old gutters on a big block of flats. I own one so do a fair bit of maintenance on it.

The gutters leak at the joins and I wondered what is the best solution to fix them without dismantling.

Could I use a silicone? A roofer said he uses stixall to seal a lot of stuff on roof or stick tiles in place.

Could I use this in between the joints ?

I will load some pics. One from the ground and two out of my velux. It’s about 11m high. We are getting scaffolding in and will be repainting the facials and gutters. So we want to solve the leak issue as well

Because we can only afford to scaffold the building in stages. So this yr, front and half of side.

Next yr rest of the side and the rear. Plus conservation area etc.

A tube of guttering sealant. Black bitumeney mastic.

Problem is, unless you get the old stuff off first (usually dried hard putty) they will probably leak again.

If you have the luxury of scaffolding then you could carefully dismantle each section, wire brush and a couple of coats of hammerite etc.

Will probably need a big flat head screwdriver for the securing bolts. Replace these if need be...
And new M6 square roofing bolts to redo the joints.

Having done mine, it is a labour of love, but worth it IMO.
I went to the effort of having them shotblasted and primed
