The Drayton thermostatic valves on our radiators are at least 22 years old The plastic tops have become brittle and are breaking off! Can I replace the tops with new ones from the current model (which I could do without draining the system)? Or will I have to drain the system and replace the whole valve?

If the old valves are TRV3, Drayton made a convertor so you could fit TRV4 tops to a TRV3 body. I don't know if you can still get them but a decent plumbers nerchant will know.

However, if the valves are 22 years old, they probably need replacing as the sensing element eventually stops working properly and you are no longer making the savings that you made when you first installed them.
