old firewall needs a sledgehammer

After changing ISP my firewall is refusing access to the new dialup number. This is Norton's 2000 version and I get the error message from the dialup - 'dialplan update unavailable'. How do I configure the firewall to accept the new dialer software? There doesn't seem to be anyway of tinkering that seems obvious to a non-expert?

I notice in a similar thread that the advice was to ditch the Norton firewall and go for a free version from Sygate; would this be easier and more importantly would it work?
