i have come accross an old heating system that has a contactor controlled by the frost stat. The problem is that the contactor now keeps sticking.

i cant understand why the contactor is needed, could this be something needed for an old installation? could i do away with the contact and just wire in the frost stat straight into the pump and boiler???

Two points:-

Can the frost stat safely carry the switching load without the contactor ?

Is the contactor used for any volt free contact wiring to do with the control system which would make it's removal difficult without investigating the system further ?

yes its not a heavy load, and no im sure the frost stat simply just puts power to the pump and boiler, why would a contactor be used when the load is small?

A contactor fitted with overloads may have been fitted for use with the pump.
some old motors over 0.37 kw should be fitted with overload protection
