Hi, I have a Hotpoint 800 9525 washing machine, the door won't open, I've had the front off, it will open when I lift up the lever with the cable attached, the other end of cable goes to a device on the motor

I think I have diagnosed my own problem, the cable was too tight, which has caused the pointy thing not to be directly over the motor pulley but pulled down to one side of it, there is a clicky thing which lets you tighten/slaken cable, when used last time before problem - yesterday - it made a lot of clonking and moved across floor, which it doesn't normally do - abnormal load I think, single pillow - maybe this caused something to happen, difficult to see how it could get tighter of its own accord.
