My house is pretty old. Not sure how old - I think they were built after WW1. The original skirtings, architrave and door frames seem to have been some kind of dark stain/varnish

I’ve replaced everything except the frames but with decades worth of old paint on them, they look really scabby. I did try a heat gun but the original varnish went really sticky and stringy and it was a nightmare - then it suddenly dawned on me that some of the paint is potentially lead based.

What can I do to get rid of all the old paint? Not sure about paint stripper as I think that would be really messy.

Buy 5lt of paint stripper as the larger tins aren't for DIY market and the good stuff, or if you can spring for a speedheater cobra infrared paint stripper, that will work.

Definitely will have lead in paint
