this is the type of old radiator valves we have on our old system, It looks pretty obvious but am i correct in thinking that these valves only shut off ONE of the connections to the radiator, and hence we cant remove a radiator without draining the system down.........Also does anyone recall what sort of era these valves were commonly used, as we are trying to figure out just how old the system is, and how long the boiler had been installed before it "retired" last year

twin entry jobbies..

I have not come across one where you cant turn off/on both valves. usually the second one is done with a screwdrives somewhere

That would be great, i could take a rad at a time of and flush them out then, will have a really close look, thanks ;)

The more I look at the pic, the more I get the feeling it's a made up jobbie, with an single valve and manifold union. so quite possible it don't turn off

Had a look and there is nothing at all that looks like it may be a second valve, so i guess its drain down in the summer time :(
