Hi,

was hoping to get the whole of the ground floor done with LVT but after lifting up a ceramic tile and some of the engineered wood that is done now I’ve found that everywhere has these old stuck down vinyl tiles.

They are not coming off. Is it possible to screed over it or do I reconsider even using LVT?

If you want glue down ( dry back ) LVT yes all the tiles need to be taken up , then a moisture test. If the sub floor is older then 1965 you will need a liquid Dpm with a smoothing compound.

They may contain asbestos, as said above they are stuck down with a black tar like substance and act as damp proofing.

Mine we stuck down very well indeed, I tiled over them in the kitchen and hallway and put laminate floor over the top in livingroom.

If you google "Marley floor tiles" it comes up with some info.

Ours are the brown tiles but yours do look very similar to some I've seen.
