Hi all,

I have discovered some strange looking insulation in the walls of a 60 year-old cottage that i am renovating.

I looks like bark or cork or something like that and kinda has the texture of POPCORN! It is dark brown in colour.

This stuff is attached directly to the blockwork and then is plastered on the inside.

I belive there is an insulation called vermiculite that it could be.

Have attached a link to a few photos of said insulation?

Can anybody identify it or has anybody seen anything like this? Does anybody think it could be ASBESTOS?

Many Thanks - Desperate for a bit of info on this...

The only advice I can give you is that it doesn't look like asbestos. I've seen it in most of its forms, and none of them looked like that.
However, the only way you can be really sure, is to take a piece to your local authority for analizing, which isn't free.
I'd wait and see if anyone else can identify it, but it does look like cork, doesn't it? ;)

for what its worth, it doesnt look like asbestos. but just because it doesnt look like it is doesnt mean that is aint
