Hi all,

I think i've more or less settled on onduline to (diy) reroof my garage.

The garage has 3 high walls and one low wall, so there are in effect 3 abutments and an overhang.

The existing roof and it's rotten timber have now been removed.

Onduline make an apron abutment flashing part, which i can use on the top edge. The instuctions don't make it obvious (to me at least) whether you should stick them to the wall, or leave them loose and just flash over the top. Any pointers here please?

Also, sealing the gap on the side abutments... The instuctions mention using flashing tape and then flashing over the top of that?

I was hoping to not use lead at all, since I just cannot afford it. Will it be ok to just use bituminous flashing tape? obviously it won't last as long but perhaps in a few years i'll be able to afford the lead!!!!

thanks for any pointers

Don't quite get all that you describe, but the flashing tape will be good if fitted correctly. Make sure the surface is clean and dry, use the primer if recommended, and heat up the surface of the tape with a hairdryer and use a wallpaper seam roller to roll it all down until the warm bitumen squidges out of the top.

Those corrugated>flat aprons should be flashed over, but you can secure it with a couple of nails first if it's flappy.
