We have a mortice sash lock on our front door. The disadvantage of which is that a key is required to secure the front door. In our last house we had a plastic front door with a sash lock that would lock like a yale lock when the door was closed, meaning that you couldn't just enter from the outside as the handle wouldn't turn and required a key from outside, though the handle worked from inside. This could then be double locked from either the inside or the outside, by use of the handle and the key, for the proper security required when not in the house. It also had the facility that you could set it up to be opened by the handle on from the outside should you wish.
Can anyone tell me where i can get such a lock to put on my wooden front door and what it might be called? Thank you.
I'm afraid you have no choice as all mortice lock on any external doors must have a 5 lever lock with a kitemark BS3621, if not you cannot make claim on your household insurance.
We have the lock, though it's annoying to have to get the key out to close the door to the outside world. Is there no lock that simply shuts as well as has the mortice lock?
