Onvif compatibilty issues

Is the Onvif standard really a working thing? I have an existing setup of a Qihan NVR and a couple of Qihan outdoor POE cameras which I'd like to now add to.

I've got a couple of different interior dome cameras (one Hikvision, one something else) but they don't seem to work on my NVR when I plug them in. The IR lamps do illuminate but there's no picture fee to the NVR.

Everything says it is Onvif so what am I missing?

I would imagine you will need the change the ip address of the new cameras so that they are in the range of your NVR.
