Hi

Was wondering if any builders might give me a clue on the process and rough cost on opening up this doorway?
The wall supports an externally wall, the beams run parallel to the wall for the upper bedroom just behind the wall.

Will it require a lintel or RSJ?

While the ceiling is down, insulate those pipes!

Sorry, I’m not the right person to answer your actual question. You want to widen the opening, right? Yes I think this will involve inserting a beam of some sort. Assuming it’s a cavity wall, you need an arrangement to support both outer an inner leaves while not forming a cold bridge. An expert will be along in a minute…

Ceiling is down as I removed another wall (wasn't at all structural) and the amount of holes it left in the ceiling just made more sense starting again.
(The wife also wanted to vault the ceiling with a velux but it would look stupid so not bothering)

I'm changing the thermal barrier to rigid above the pipes so no need to insulate as they will be on the warm side when it's done. Plus most of that pipe fed a radiator on the removed wall so needs cutting back.

And yes it's a cavity wall

The wall adjacent seems to be doing a bit of work, i.e. supports the roof purlin etc. What supports this wall? Is there a beam under it? There may be a padstone behind the plaster, just above that menu/planner.
