Options to cap old gas pipe

None but that's not what this is about, this is about someone inadvertently turning something on and making a pipe live that hasn't been live for 30 years and since forgotten about.

I don't see the issue with getting it checked by a gas engineer just to be sure. How many mistakes have been made with gas when assumptions were made that ended up in disaster.
so what could be turned on that would make a 30 year old internal pipe become live again.
After 12 months a service is cut off in the street and historical ones missed also get done at the very least meter would have been removed and ecv capped otherwise he would have been getting bills for past 30 years for standing charge

I really don't see the issue with just getting it checked, mistakes have been made in the past and assumptions IME can be dangerous, or is it you're just trying to make a point?
