I have a 10led outdooor kit. Not fitting outdoor but on my kitchen kickplate.

I need to fit a switch in series to turn them on/of as I can't use a plug which is supplied.

It's a 2 core cable from the mains 240vac, then it goes into the transformer which steps it down to 12Vdc with 10plug in adaptors for each LED.

DO I need any specific Switch to fit on the mains cable as it is 2core?
I'm looking for a small round push buton type, 15mm bezel, somthing like that.

Nothing special required not sure of rules where you live. Scotland is different to England and Wales but in a kitchen in England and Wales to cut off plug and hard wire means you pay council £100+ under Part P rules.

£100 just to alter the wiring!!
it's still going to have the plug from souurce, just there is no access to it to switch the lights on, that's why i need to fit an inline switch.

cheers anyway

its £142+vat in my area.

Matters not if it still has the plug as source, what you describe IMHO is still 'fixed wiring' in a restricted location.

Chances are, nothing will come of it. But then again, failure to comply with building regs carries a £5000 and possibility of being forceed to re do the work to the satisfaction of LABC. It may invalidate your house insurance in the event of a claim. It may give you problems if you intend to sell the house.

Choice is yours! :)

I'm in Scotland so not sure what the regs say.

It's terrible that you cannot do minor works, if your competent.

I'm sure I can connect 4 wire together, via a switching unit!!!

Not a ?prefabricated set? (question marks as its not my turn to cook and I've had a couple of glasses of wine and dinner is about to arrive and I can't be bothered to look it up what its really called)

You should not put a switch on the low voltage (LED) side of the transformer. It may not like sitting there with its output open circuit.

You should engineer to switch on and off at the mains. Maybe a remote controlled socket? Something like this, perhaps? clicky

That's quite an interesting gadget :)

May go for that if I cannot get a decent looking switch.
The switch in series would be fitted on the 240v side, before the transformer reduces to DC

Cheers

Hmm, yea, microwave meal for me aswell.
Pre assembled? CE marked?
NOt sure, but i imagine cutting conductors and inserting a switch somewhere would stop it being a pre-fab thingy
