outdoor light

Hi, there has been a discussion previously about an outside light that won't go off, but it seemed to relate to one with an inbuilt PIR. I have one with a separate PIR that won't go off. I have a light down the garden and I wanted to test whether the bulb had gone so I switched off the main control switch (not the meter one) to the outside electrics. All the others are ok when I switched it on again except for this one. It did this once before when I had an electrician working and he fixed it - apparently it is common and simple to fix if you know how. Does anybody know how please???

I am sure many know how but not from what you say on the post. The only thing that springs to mind is some PIR's can be set by switching the power off and on each time you do it another program is selected. For example on when dark, or on when dark and movement detected.

I have had problems where a group of these are all on the same switch. So only quick fix is to try switching off and on after that more information is required.

Thank you; I'll try that. I can't give any more information than I have already because that is all I know !!!! (sorry) other than I think I recall the electrician saying somthign like "it's got it's dark and lights mixed up" I think he may have moved something on the PIR with a screwdriver but I can't see how using the main switch would affect this?

Many thanks again for your help. It worked!! I had to turn it off and on 3 times; after the third time it went off and I did wonder if it would come back on at all. However the cat has just gone out and it has illuminated

I shall giggle about that tomorrow, (as well as now) probably at the most inappropriate moment;

and yes it did !!! and more to the point - it operated as it should do and is still operating correctly now. Next thing is, the bulb will burn out as the cats are backwards and forwards waiting for me to let them in for their supper.

And if the bulb goes, then the main switch will be turned off to replace the bulb and we shall have the same pantomime all over again - such is life.
