Hi,

Were trying to organise a fundraising might at our sons school which will include a bar and a live band and disco, hopefully, if the weather let's us, in the playground/playing fields at the school. Does anyone know what licences/permissions we'll need for this to go ahead and who we apply to get these??

Thank you!

I think the bar will need a licence. It's usual to approach a local pub and ask if they can run an outside bar, as the landlord will usually arrange the licence for the bar. Dunno about any other licences though, but don't forget public liability insurance for the event .

Thanks john, sorry, I meant to say that we've organised a pub to provide the bar and as you say, they'll deal with the licence for that. Hadn't thought of public liability though, will look into that. Was more the playing of live music I was wondering about and ifwe need any permissions from the council, police, fire service etc...?

Think it would be prudent to 'ask' each one of you need to apply for any special permits. Also, if the band are performing other peoples music you may have to contact the Performing Rights Society so you don't breach copyright rules. (Although the band may have taken care of this already, but check with them first, don't assume).
Hope all goes well for you.

just ring your local council.....im sure they would be able to advise you..

PRS is the Performing Rights Society

MCPS is the Mechanical-Copyright Protection Society

although now administered by PRS you may need MCPS if you are making copies of the music to play on your system

PPL is Public Performance Licence

The school may already have some of these licences but you will need to check whether they extend to outside music
