outdoor security light

hiya im new here and think i should be blonde most days so i hope someone can help me! i want to get a security light for my back garden but was wondering if its safe to put a 3 pinned plug on it?? :?
 
Yes you can put a plug on, BUT, being outside it should really be on a RCD. Which would make it a permanent fixture and liable to notification to the local building control, who will want money from you.
 
so i wont blow anything up? to be fair it wont be used that much its just that my gardan i quite big and its only so i can see my dog to get him in when its dark.

It's fixed equipment whether it has an RCD or not.
