outdoor switch

hi,i have just bought a garden fountain powered from the mains,is it possible to put an external switch on the cable i have an outside junction box that powers my outdoor rope lights can i run a neutral from this to the fountain and a live via an outside switch (i think This is the correct way)

your switch should be double pole to isolate the pump..

you need to stop and contact the LABC as this is an outdoor electric installation that needs notification according to part P of the building regulations.. ( see the WIKI for info on Part P )

your alternative route is to get a part P registered electrician to do it who will then notify the LABC on your behalf and do the work for you
