I am looking to replace a wooden table top on an outdoor table due to the original planks have not weathered well and with one having split.

the planks that form the table top are fairly substantial, about 6 inches wide and 1 1/2 inches deep

Any suggestions of a replacement wood that will weather well? I would prefer to not have the hassle of needing to put a cover of the table (I struggle to find a large enough one anyhow) so the wooden top will be explosed to the elements all year

cheers

you would benefit from giving it a protective oil finish, i used linseed oil which is cheap and seems to be lasting well. It is not prone to cracking and letting water in, like varnish can, and makes the timber water-repellent in depth as it soaks in. You have not got to sand it off before retreatment. It is fairly slow to apply as you are only supposed to put enough on with each coat for it to be absorbed.
