Hello all , just wondered what the best way to light up my back garden is with a lamp on house wall , the garden is approx 12m x 12m i am thinking in terms of light and running cost . many thanks .

A couple of photocell lamps with 12W CFLs will do the trick and be quite cheap to run. Put one on each corner of the house. You can get fake antique looking lanterns or more modern lamps.

If you want to annoy the neighbours and waste money, a floodlight will suit you better

Thanks johnd , what about a low wattage in the center of the house or are they not man enough , thanks

not if its in the centre of the house no, better on the outside wall.

a common mistake is to have one great big light stuck high up pointing down, yes it works, but its usually too bright, too costly in terms of running, lights the surrounding neigbours gardens as well.
much better to have several low rated lamps also at a lower physical height

another option is to not bother, in that why not light specific parts like that tree, those plants, it looks much better
