Hi can someone help me please, I have garden lights outside wired into a plug socket in the home. Between the lights and the wall plug socket, I want to connect it to a 1 gang. Switch.
I have wired the cable coming from the lights outside to the 1 gang. Live to L1
Neutral to common.
Then from the 1gang to the 3 pin plug I have wired live to L1
Neutral from common to the 3 pin. Then connected the 2 earth leads together then gone to earth to the 3 pin plug.
When I plug into the socket nothing happens at all even after playing with the switch on the one gang
Can someone help please

The neutral does not connect to any terminals on a single pole switch.
The function of the switch is to open and close the live/line, so the live from plug goes to com, the live going to lights to L1.
Neutrals connected together in a separate connector and all earths to earth terminal.
It is likely that you have now blown fuse in plug.

When the switch is ON then Common is connected to L1. Therefor in your set up the switch will have shorted Live to Neutral and this has blown the fuse in the plug.

Buy a new switch, the one you have is likely to be damaged. And some 3 amp fuses.

Then try this

Live from plug to common. Live from lamps to L1

The two neutrals should be connected together in a piece of terminal strip.

The two earths need to be connected together in a piece of terminal strip.

If it is a metal switch you must use the earth terminal to join the earths and earth the metal.

edit I type too slowly
