Is there anything wrong with wiring a switched outside light (switch inside) from a spur from the ring. (Apart from the fact that it will be a luminaire on the RCD side)

Having the light on the RCD side is the correct way of doing things when you're supplying power to an outdoor fitting, so no worries there.
What type of switch were you thinking of using? You need to be using a switched FCU fitted with a fuse of an appropriate rating, most likely 3A. It will be easiest to wire this as a spur from the ring, but if the socket you plan on wiring into is already a spur then you will have to think again.
I want to use a 2 gang, one for an inside light and one for this outside light. I could use a non switched FCU at high level and connect it to the 2 gang.
