Hi, I'm new and have a (not too silly I hope!) question about my lighting...

We moved into our new house earlier in the year and I am going through the usual finding out all the things that don't work that they don't tell you scenario!

The latest of these is the outside sensor light. I changed the bulb which didn't sort it, so, as I had a boxed new one (which I had bought for previous house but never got round to fitting), I changed it. This didn't work either! I have checked the wiring in what I assume is the relevant switch, as it is not obviously for anything else, and it seems fine.

I am now completely stumped as I have a rudimentary knowledge of electrics but have never dabbled with lighting before. The wiring inside is black to "1 way" and red to "common", "2 way" is empty.

As I said, I am not too familiar with lighting wiring, so any help or pointers would be extremely welcome!!

Cheers,
James :)

Could be anything.

You need a multimeter to find out whether there is any voltage at the switch (or indeed at the light position, since you dont know for sure what that switch does)

Cheers for the reply. From what I've described is this a 2 way switch?

it is but that is not the point.

you still need a multi meter.

imagine trying to put nails in with a pound of butter, not going to happen is it.

likewise you need t have a multimeter and learn how to use it

Cheers. Yeah, I will get a multimeter om it. I just wanted to know for reference as I wasn't sure.

Thanks again for the replies.
