Installing our new kitchen, oven is hard wired [32amp circuit] need to install isolating switch, is it ok for this to go at rear of adjacent cupboard? [we are trying to avoid any sockets etc. to wall as will have mirror splash-back and intend to use pop up sockets out of worktop.]

There is actually no requirement to have an isolating switch (or any other switch) in the vicinity of the oven, so, as far as regulations are concerned, you can put it wherever you want.

However, it makes sense to have a nearby switch to enable you to switch off the oven 'in an emergency' (e.g. if it bursts into flames!) and, for that purpose, you may wish to consider whether it is necessarily wise to have it at the back of a cupboard with goodness-knows-what in front of it, whilst one was 'panicking' if any such emergency should ever arise.

Kind Regards, John

Yes and no.

If you consider the switch for emergency switching then it should be readily accessible in an emergency.

As there is actually no requirement for local isolation, then it does not really matter where you put it or don't have one at all.

Either way, it should, be fitted securely, is the back of the cupboard suitable?

Edit - too slow.

Thanks, the rear of the oven states it require a double poles iso switch, hence my question, but back of cupboard will be fine, rear is 12mm mdf [stiff back board] and drawer to front so nothing can be left in front to obstruct.
Though as it's not a requirement I might think again.

my sparks installed isolation switch for both ovens and extractor fan at the back of cupboards, but i've designed shelves to avoid having them covered.

The one i wanted located in a better place was for the induction hob and i opted for the isolation switch at the door/exit end of the island. My thinking being that an oven fire is a lot easier to manage than a hob fire and with a hob fire. i'm either running for the exit or the consumer unit so have the switches in opposite directions.

A double pole isolation switch is most useful for anyone who is repairing the oven...
