Hi All, I've read the sticky, but want to avoid the use of SLC if possible.

Got a bathroom with original floorboards that are not in great nick. Nice and flat, but with gaps, and some kind of varnish that's leaking through the sheet vinyl that's down now.

Planning to over board with 6mm ply (once plumbing etc is finished) Screwed at 200mm centers. Going to leave a 2mm gap between the ply boards, and fill with 2 part wood filler and sand back, fill again feathering it out a bit.

Does that sound like a good plan?

Sounds a good plan to me, the gap in the ply will stop the boards creaking against each other.

Filler should work fine with a sheet vinyl, if you choose one with a felt backing, it will give a little extra support to the vinyl.
