Overgrown grass

hi

looking to trim back some overgrown grass in our lawn. Due to the height of the grass (just above ankle!) the lawn mover didnt seem to work.

are there any better solutions? is it better to use the grass trimmer to reduce the height and then use the lawnmover? Wanted to ask as i dont have a trimmer at the moment. if its useful i can go and buy it.

this is my first house and so dont have any gardening experience so to speak off to may be a dumb question.

yeah strimmer is the way to go here. On sale in B&Q at the mo. keep it short and mow afer strimming

As above and another option would be to hire for a short time, if the hire shop is convenient to you. Straight shaft type strimmer is best, but they all do a good job.
