Hi,

I am wanting to put up an electric fence in a field which has overhead power cables running over it. I therefore need to know the voltage being carried in the overhead cables, so I can work out the clearance to the elec fence. Does anyone know what the voltage is carried in overhead cables (the cables are attached to wooden posts, not pylons)?

P.S. I have asked the elec company to confirm, but they are taking a while to get back to me.

wooden poles, you say?

not likely to be at Transmission voltages then.

photos would be nice.

Can you see any pole-mounted transformers attached? Where does the line go to/come from?

Thanks all, Loverocket wins the prize for correct answer. The elec board man turned up at my door and confirmed 11kV

11, 33 or 66, although I have seen 132 on wooden posts near to here - a small branch off of a standard 'pylon'.
