Overheating

Evening folks,

I have just retreived my toyota mr2 from the garage, where it had the gearbox repaired. (I believe this involves almost complete removal of the engine from the chassis, or that is what I have previously been told anyway.)

The problem is on driving it home the 5 miles from the garage it has severely overheated and with the garage not being open now until monday, I have had to park it up.

Is the problem likely to be something simple like then forgetting to ensure the cooling system is full of water, or something more sinister?

sounds like an airlock in the system,how does the coolant level look?

now it's actually cooled down a bit and I've been able to take the rad cap off - there was a distinct lack of water. I'll have to bleed the system over the weekend and see how it is after that.
