hi all, i've tried to be a good newbie and checked the forums and FAQs so apologies if this is a repeated question!

i have a potterton suprima 60l mounted on a cold wall in our unheated loft, and on the last couple of cold nights i've heard it kick in about 3am and fire up the heating for a while. from digging around a little i'm assuming it has a limit thermostat fitted, which appears to be what looks like a clip on one the pipes with two contacts which presumably start the system when they touch due to pipe contraction in cold weather.

my question is whether this can be adjusted, as i feel it's kicking in too early. the low last night barely touched zero outside, must have been a couple of degrees warmer in the loft and the heating had been on until 9 anyway so i would expect some residual heat; in my book this is too conservative. i really don't want the heating going on and off three times a night every time it's near zero - i can hear the pump from bed and the raise in temperature seems to wake the baby!

any advice appreciated, i've been up to have a look at the installation and everything is well lagged, i can see the PCB has been switched over in the last 18 months (we've had the house for 6 months) as the old one is up there along with an empty bottle of feronox. obviously i don't want to power down and get the hood off if there's nothing i can do.

many thanks,
simon

one would normally expect to find a wall mounted frost stat set at about 5°C (air temp) and a pipe stat on the return set at about 20°C, these should be wired in series, and bypass the programmer and room stat, so both air and water in system need to be cold enough to turn BOTH stats on to fire boiler.
