Does anyone know the correct procedure for shutting down an oxy-propane burner torch?
Do you turn off the oxy first then the propane or vice versa?

conny - at the torch you close-off the oxygen first leaving just the fuel gas (either propane or acetylene) burning, you then turn this off. Next, turn off your cylinder valves ... it's not critical in which order you do this but get into a habit and stick to it. Next, you have to 'vent' the hoses by opening the valves at the torch in turn - this allows the pressure on the regulators diaphrams to be relieved ... watch for the needles on the dials to swing down to zero and listen out for the hiss of gases then undo the knobs. One trick to speed the venting is to slightly turn the regulator knob up then when the needle hits zero undo the knob. Relieving pressure on the regulators is important to maintain their accuracy and for safety (you don't want unburned fuel gas left in the hoses. Finally, close the torch valves and ensure the regulator knobs are undone.

Thanks guys,
I know the procedure for oxy-acetylene, been doing it for 30 odd years exactly as you say Symptom, acetylene first oxy second, bottle valves next then release hose pressure so no problem there.
Just been using oxy-propane and different guys have different ways. I have always done it reverse to oxy-acetylene. i.e. Oxy first then propane then bottles etc. just wanted to find out if there was a particular way that was recommended by the gas people or HSE but can't find anything on either websites. Will stick to my way because I feel safe doing that way after doing it for so long.

Once again, thanks guys.
