My bay window roof has lead flashing. Are there any precautions I should be aware of when rubbing it down for painting? It has been previously painted black, so is there a special type of paint I should use for lead?

Lead flashing is not normally painted, undercoat and gloss tend to crack and flake due to expansion/contraction of the lead,

However as yours has been painted in the past I would suggest clean off flakey paint and a couple of coats of Bitumastic paint would smarten it up, although Bitumastic has a dull finish not gloss,
And make sure you wash your hands after handling the flashing.
