Has anyone got any good tips on how to unstick painted shut windows?

The fantastic people who used to own our house some how managed to paint shut every single window several time over and I don't want to attack them (the windows, not the vendors - although that would be tempting) until I know what I'm doing.

As always - sorry for the amateurish-ness of the question.

Hi Helen,

Take a sharp craft knife and carefully score the paint line between frame and window (or, where it's been painted shut), then work the blade of a wide paint scraper (or, better still, a flexible filling knife) into the painted shut line and carefully try to work it free, taking care not to bruise / damage the timber in the process....If they are sash windows, you can then try grasping the meeting rail (top horizontal bit of lower sash) and try shaking the sash from side to side in order to break the paint seal.

....Failing that......

Take a sharp craft knife and track down the vendors....sorry, wrong forum !

:p
