I'm about to install a Velux roof light. I'd like to use a 'Conservation' type that are black.

Unfortunately minimum roof pitch prohibits the use of the Conservation flashing, and I'm going to have to use a standard Velux with grey outer and grey flashing.

The supplier has quoted an extra £100 if I want it black instead of grey, so I've decided to get the standard kit and paint it black myself.

Anyone done this before, and what paint should I use? Smooth Hammerite perhaps?

The flashing will no doubt be some form of plastic coating. Yes you can paint it but it wont stay on long. I wouldnt use Hammerite on it to be honest.
Some form of etch primer might be better, then an oil based undercoat and top coat. Use something like ESP Primer first.
