Hi all,

I have 2 new exterior doors, front and back. having read paint information here, I'm painting the front door black with Dulux weathersheild gloss.

I wish to paint the back door a French grey colour. Unfortunately Dulux do not do a grey weathersheild gloss.

Could anybody recommend a grey gloss that would be best for my back door?

Plus would a grey gloss be best if a white undercoat is used or a grey undercoat?

Thanks in advance

Any decent gloss will do you...but stick to a reputable brand.

Weathershield isnt the only gloss you can use on an outside.

Make sure you prime the door first..and do the top and bottom edges.

Dont worry about covering the door...id go for grey undercoat myself then two coats of gloss over the top..if you have white use that.

Thanks Zampa,

I have some weather shield grey undercoat for the front door so I'll use that for the back door too if I have enough left over.

I'll have a look at the Dulux colour mixing gloss range. failing that, Farrow and Ball have a French Gray oil full gloss and Fired earth have a similar colour. I might give them a try.

Both farrow and Ball and Fired earth have a great range of colours in all finishes. Are they worth the premium or are you paying for the colour choice?

While I'm on the subject of Farrow and Ball they have a lower sheen exterior eggshell. Does anybody have any experience or opinions on this?

Those brands are ok...just ok..remember dulux crown etc are also very experienced paint makers.

The colour range..trust me its nothing special..its all about how they are grouped..

But its decent paint..what ou have to consider is what you want from it, its still going to get dirty, mark chip etc...it will still need doing every few years.

Dont be fooled by the hype of fancy colour cards etc.
