I need to paint an exterior wooden door. I have a lot of problems with the wood swelling in wet weather and therefore not being able to open and close door easily. Every product I have tried has not helped with this. Can anyone suggest anything please?

A common problem is not painting the bottom of the door (or the top for that matter) which allows moisture to penetrate.

I believe the standard advice is to apply the same number of coats all round, finishing with two coats of exterior gloss to keep the weather out.

Painting the bottom is a pain but it will make a difference.

Don't forget there is a painting forum too.
