The mahogany front door is presently stained with sadolin, the interior will be painted white and the exterior will be painted black, i know it will need sanded down before i start painting it but what grade of paper do i need to use? and will i need to use aluminium primer and a couple of coats of undercoat followed by the top coat if so what grade of paper do i need to use between coats?

I would use 120 grit Aluminium oxide paper. Give it a good rub down and apply a Zinsser bin primer. Aluminium primer really is for raw hardwood. Couple of coats of undercoat and a top coat after. Gentle sand between each coat.
