Probably another simple one, but whats the best way to go about this ?

After the cat knocked a set of ladders down the stairs leaving a hole in the wall I filled it with some deep gap filler from screwfix. As the wall is white and the filler a dark grey I am having trouble painting over it. Is it a case of just keep going with the emulsion until it is gone or would I have been better off going with a first coat of oil based undercoat ?

It may be that the filler is not paintable, or you are using a cheap, thin emulsion.

I would certainly try oil-based undercoat first.
