Bought an old guitar in a charity shop for my little boy. Only thing is it's pink. We thought it would be a nice project for him to prime it and paint a picture on it.
It's very shiny I assume a lacquer is on top of the pink paint.
Question is what to do next? does it have to be rubbed back hard, not so hard or any other method? Cheers.

240 grade wet and dry. If taking apart use it wet.
Just need to create a key for paint but you don't want scratches. Just take the shine off same as painting a car.

Are you using spray cans? Stand them in hot water to warm them up and they will spray nice.
Primer
Top coats
Lacquer

Treat the surface with Liquid Sandpaper to save dismantling it (y)

Do you want to remove all of the pink?

If yes, it is a case of finding the correct solvent.

If it is 1 or 2K spray, or waterbased, cellulose thinners will soften and remove the finish, but you will need to wear red PVC gloves. It eats through silicone and nitrile gloves.

Thanks for the help everyone.
The plan is (once it's ready). Prime it, let the little boy draw with pencil his design/pictures, then colour it in with POSCA pens. They are like felt pens but acrylic ink, they're very good by the way. Then lacquer it apparently.
