Painting over painted walls

Hello

The walls in my house are currently white, I painted them about them about 2 years ago. However I know wish to apply a new coat over the white (probably an off white). As the white emulsion is about 2 years old, do I need to do any prep? Also could I paint the colour straight onto the white (pure) or apply a fresh white basecoat?
