Hi, moved into a house with 'shiny' paint down the hall. It's not gloss or satin, might be kitchen or bathroom 'scrubbable' paint (?).

I made a mistake painting over old gloss upstairs, I sanded down but didn't use undercoat - the whole lot just peeled off. Lesson learned.

Will trade matt emulsion cover the shiny surface? I don't want it all flaking off again in a few months. Thank you.

Firstly you will need to lightly sand the surface to remove any sheen, then dust off and apply a thinned coat of your emulsion this will provide the bond needed for future coats.
