So they aren't going to be used much...

Only very rarely will plugs be inserted/removed

And they aren't in a prominent place...

and they wouldn't be used in locations where they would be likely to be 'knocked about' too much.

And where they are, appearance is not highly important...

there will not be in rooms/parts of the house where aesthetics are a major concern.

Thanks. As I've just written to chivers, I'd forgotten about that type. I'll look further into this, but the couple you've linked to look/sound as if they might be expensive.

Hmailton Lightstat Perception clear/white about £22 + VAT for a double socket. A lot cheaper than £79 for a bespoke painted one!
