Panasonic Remote Control Problem

Panasonic TV controller (N2QAYB000504) is suddenly behaving in an odd way. Power button works, channel 3 button works, volume and channel up/down button are all wrong, they scroll through current channel information.

I've changed the batteries and tested the remote with smart phone to see the IR emitter flash on camera screen.

Checked on eBay for a £30 replacement but wondered if there was any way to reset it at all?

Just had a look at this link. I had no idea that smart phone cameras would do that, but my Nexus 5 Android phone did exactly what was said.
My wife was a bit disgruntled, though, that her iPhone wouldn't show the white light!
