Can somebody actually tell me what this means?

I know that the pipe from the top of the cylinder should rise and be 450mm in length or else the above problem occurs but not sure what the problem actually is?

Circulation within the same pipe (Gravity) you get it more with bigger pipes.

What it means is that your cylinder will continually heat and there will be very little hot water delivered to the taps. The water will be lukewarm at best.

That would be a worse case Tony, unlikely in a normal domestic install, and you would want a very long horizontal pipe to even get close to losing that amount of heat.

Just trying to give your man an idea of what it means which should be obvious given that the term derives from parasite :)
