Hi,
I have recently moved into a house and three rooms have wish bone parquet flooring (tile size 9" x 2 3/4" x 3/4" thick).
However, it's all in a pretty bad state - about 10 tiles are loose, 5 completely missing (revealing a black gloss bitumen(?) base) and all have layers of paint, dirt etc on. There is also the remians of adhesive from some old Marley tiles I've removed.
The questions -
What type of sander should I use - and can I just go onto the finer grades of paper?
Someone told me a good hard varnish is best to seal the wood. But have also heard hardwax oil is good. What's best? Can this be used to stain the wood too?
What should I do about the loose tiles?
Lastly, where can i get replacement tiles from? They're a loose grain and are quite soft so I think they're pine or something cheap...?
Please can someone help?! Sorry for all the questions...
